Cause for Celebration: Davenport's First 5!

Planting and equipping churches that thrive and bear the fruit of changed lives is nothing short of miraculous. And we love giving God the glory by proclaiming their milestones as well as their launches.
Five years ago Harvest Davenport became Harvest's first "granddaughter" church. Planted by Harvest Naperville (the first daughter church), Davenport celebrated the occasion with a rousing "Cause for Celebration" service.

This congregation of transformed lives is praising God for His amazing work, specifically for their...

    Existence

    Matthew 16:18
In his very first sermon, Senior Pastor Rob Willey declared, “My desire is that we will be a church that constantly fills up and constantly overflows with the Word of Christ, because of the Person of Christ within us.”

    Growth
    Colossians 2:19
There has been remarkable growth in their first five years, increasing from an initial core group of twenty to over 1500 calling Harvest Davenport their church home. Likewise, Junior High and High School Ministries started with three children and now host over 100 students each week.

    Building

    1 Chronicles 29:16-17
In 2006, the church purchased a building which is now used in all manners of ministry and worship seven days a week.  This was made possible by the commitment and giving of their congregation.  In just seven weeks, 625 people gave $1.6 million and the build-out began.

    Leadership

    Ephesians 4:11
Davenport is blessed to be led by a group of humble, discerning, supportive, committed men serving as deacons and elders.  These are men who love the Lord, love this church, and pray without ceasing for it.

    Impact

    Acts 12:24
The most significant work that God has done is life transformation, and the number and extent to which some of those lives have been changed.  One man gave testimony of being an alcoholic for fifteen years and on the brink of divorce—all of which changed when Jesus "got hold of" his life.  Now, along with his wife and children, they are a family devoted to the Lord.  Stories like these are not uncommon, and in their five years more than 380 people have been baptized!

As Pastor Rob concludes, "God honored His Word to build His Church. We took the risks to be obedient, and here we are. People have been yanked from the pit of sin, and their lives have been turned upside down because of the work that Christ is doing."

Now that truly is a cause for celebration!
